Opening reception Saturday, August 6, 3–5 PM
Turley Gallery is excited to present three artists over two exhibitions this August. Hank Ehrenfried and Janean Morris present in the main gallery and a solo exhibition of Charlie Goering in The Drawing Room. These three artists share a sophistication in their mark making and a mature elegance in their explorations. Refinement at its best.

“When you make a snowflake with paper and scissors, its symmetry is revealed in its expansion. Its meaning is as much the final snowflake as it is undoing each crease. It is a process that produces more individual pieces of paper. It is a celebration! This was something I wrote a few weeks ago, strangely—or not so strangely—as part of the little piece of writing I put together as part of my marriage proposal to Campbell and how the intent to create one thing leaves behind lots of other objects and residue. And it seems like a silly enough starting place for paintings.”
Janean Morris, Atmospheric Change 3, 2021, pastel on archival cotton paper, 9 x 12 inches

“Since I was really young, I’ve been able to get very lost in seeing. I think it's close to meditation. The way patterns repeat themselves loosely in a fire, and ripple out. When you stare at something statically for a long time, the mind has a funny way of creating movement, floating bits of blurriness. Optical illusions start to form. The smoke is a presence that is ominous, fleeting, captivating, obscuring yet generative. I have made 8 versions of work based on this to date, and while this method functions as a rigorous framework, it’s like repeating a mantra, allowing me to get lost and find myself in it.”
Turley Gallery is open Friday–Sunday, 12–5 PM and by appointment.
